If you are a tenant in NYC, and especially if you’re a NYCHA tenant, you have probably heard about NYCHA 2.0, NextGen, and/or RAD. These are all part of the city’s “solution” to repairing and preserving public housing in New York City. This policy direction poses a threat to tenants by de facto privatizing their apartments, buildings, and other community resources. Moreover, RAD, or PACT as its called in NYC, is already linked widespread displacement – in the developments its been implemented in across the country, and in Ocean Bay Houses, the development it was piloted at in NYC. Understanding this policy direction can help us fight against it, and push the city to publicly fund public housing.
